Social media rules the day at the moment, no question about it. But before the social media plague infected everyone on the planet, blogging was the best tool for personal and public communications. I blogged at Sun. Back around 2004, Sun implemented one of the first and best corporate platforms for group blogging. Over time thousands of Sun employees started blogging, and many of us used it to build communities around various Open Source projects. Microsoft was the only other company brave enough to enable employee blogging at the time. For Sun, though, that all ended in 2009 when Sun died.
